We got a LOT done this weekend. Of course both of us are so sore now that we've having a hard time just standing up at this point, but it's been worth it.
I started the day at 6 AM. I fed the horses, then gave all three medicated shampoos and cleaned and medicated Lizzie and Bug's messy ears. Ladybug's ear that she had the surgery done on is very strange looking. The tip of it is bent forward very much like a dog's ear! NOT attractive. Hope it eventually straightens back up after the swelling goes down.
I also cleaned the stalls and paddocks, rinsed out all the water buckets, and brushed and bug sprayed the horses after they dried. It was past noon by then and I was completely exhausted. I am just NOT used to doing anything outside. This is really going to take some adapting!
In the meantime, Mark and Jerry finished closing in the front of the barn. Next weekend they will put the siding on the top half and it will be ready to paint blue to match the house.
What I'm looking forward to the most, though, is getting water and electric lines out there. Not sure when that will happen, but it will be SO much simpler when there are automatic waterers in their stalls -- and lights -- and a tack room with heating/air conditioning -- and a sealed space with no bugs or flies. But I imagine it will be later in the fall before that happens. It's still soooo hot - it's just really hard to do anything.
We finally ran an extension cord out to the barn so the horses would be able to have fans at least. And they seemed very pleased about that. Check out Duke - he always stands looking toward the outside, but here he is facing in toward the fan. It's GOT to be hot! (Of course he's also waiting on dinner so that probably has something to do with his attention, as well.)
Okay. The weekend is over and I am heading for bed -- at 10 instead of the usual midnight! Whew!
