Joey

Took off work early today so I could go pick up Joey from therapy and haul him over to the vet to get his legs looked at.  About a month ago it looked to me like he had walked into a fire ant mound or something -- sudenly there were LOTS of red bumps on his back right leg.
Right leg

But the bumps not only haven't gone away, but they've moved together like they're spreading, and now there are bumps on his back left leg as well.  The bumps on the left leg are up high and mostly on the inside of his leg so they're not quite as obvious but they're pretty bad, too.  You can see just a couple of them in the picture above near the top of the leg in the back but below you can see how awful they actually are.

Left leg

His right leg looks worse now than it did before we went to the vet because they did skin scrapings.  But at least the scrapings showed he doesn't have any sort of mange or anything like that.  I was concerned because when they found him in a field when he was a puppy, he had NO hair since he had a really bad case of mange.

Anyway, they've put him on mega-doses of antibiotics and he goes back in to get rechecked in 10 days.  In the meantime, he has to be bathed with medicated shampoo three times a week.  (THAT should be a challenge, as strong and active as he is!)  Actually, I'm thinking I may bath him just once or twice a week and in between spray his whole back half with the Eqyss I use on the horses for skin problems.
Eqyss.  A fast acting, anti-microbial spray that minimizes fungal and bacterial skin problems on contact providing leave-on protection that continues to work for over 24 hours. It promotes a healthy skin and coat by controlling skin conditions while adding protein to strengthen damaged areas. This formula offers leave on protection to the damaged problem areas. Minimizes fungal and bacterial skin problems on contact. Stops skin problems from spreading. Will not burn or hurt open wounds. Environmentally friendly. Accelerates healing. Alcohol free. NON-TOXIC. Safe for human cross-over use.
The stuff cures about anything on the horses and it doesn't hurt when you spray it on raw wounds.  And heck, the product description says it's even safe for humans, so it ought to be fine for dogs.  We'll see if it works for Joey as well as it works for the horses.
