Post-Christmas

Passed on an opportunity to go for a jazz brunch with Vickie and John and a couple of their friends this morning, and spent those hours over at the barn instead.  So everything over there is nice and clean again -- stalls are clean, hay nets have been filled, the whole nine yards.  Everything is ready to bring the horses back inside later.

It's still pretty cold out there today.  In fact, I thought I'd leave the horses' blankets on them when I put them out this morning.  I put Duke out first in his very masculine looking (I thought) plaid blanket.

Ha!  The minute he hit the pasture, Torri's Appaloosa, Phineas, began trying to mount him!!  What the heck???  Duke has always been the dominant horse in that pasture.  Suddenly he's the target of another guy??  What's up with THAT?   Did that blanket make him look gay or what?   Duke didn't seem to know what the heck to make of it!  He didn't try to kick or fight back or anything, he just kept turning around to face Phineas and staring at him like "WHAT are you DOING??"  I gave it a while but Phineas never let up.  .  Poor Duke.  So I brought him back in and took his blanket off.  He might be a bit chilly now, but at least he's back to being the boss!  (Strange horses -- who ever thought they'd be that "style conscious"!!)

Here's Lizzie waiting to have HER blanket taken off.  If Duke wasn't safe in his blanket, heaven knows she could never go out there in hers!

As I was driving out, the horses who were eating at the HayHut suddenly turned to stare down the power line so I'm thinking I probably got out of there just in time.  The hunters whose trucks were parked there at the barn were probably headed back in with a dead deer -- something I HATE seeing.  Glad I missed it.

(Check out Lizzie in this picture -- the minute she hit the pasture she proceeded to roll around on the ground and glop up her coat.  Sigh.)
When I got home and went in the house, Idgy was sitting by herself quietly on the sofa waiting for Vickie and John.  She is SUCH a sweet girl.  I went upstairs to the office and when I came back down the stairs she was still sitting there like a perfect angel.
She's sweet enough to actually make me rethink my previous less-than-positive opinion of small dogs!
