It's been a gorgeous 70 to 80 degrees down here all week. Lovely. But they're saying it's going to not only rain but drop down into the low 30's by the end of the week, so I spent yesterday evening washing horse blankets. I'm sure those of you living up north find it hilarious that we would put blankets on our horses when it's barely freezing, but after all, they're used to super hot weather down here, not cold, so blankets it is -- especially when it's a cold rain. (Besides, I sleep better knowing the animals are all toasty - even if they don't really care if they're blanketed or not!)
And between laundry loads, I rearranged the furniture in the bedroom and living room yet again. I'm still not 100% happy with it, but it's better. I put that chaise that was up in one of the guest rooms, and then down in our master bedroom, back out in the living room (it was, after all, part of the living room sectional sofa to begin with) and stuck one of the swivel rockers that were in front of the living room fireplace in the bedroom instead -- it takes up a lot less space. Joey spent so much time on that chaise when it was in the bedroom that I figured I better not give him a chance to eat the arm off the thing now that Mark is heading back to work. He will be in the house unsupervised on Tuesdays and Thursdays when he doesn't go to therapy. Can't be too careful with a guy with jaws and a propensity for chewing like he has!
Of course, now that the chaise is back in the living room, Boo has decided that it makes a fine place for him to recline. But at least Boo never chews on things so I'll just keep a coverlet on there that I can pull off when there's company and we'll be fine. You know, I'm not sure how we ended up where we are. We never used to allow any of the dogs on the furniture. Hmm. Wonder what happened with that? It IS nice though to be able to sit next to them on a nice comfy sofa instead of on the floor.
Oh - I finally got around to trying the saddle Janet used for Satin on the girls tonight. It looks to me like it's going to fit Lizzie, but I'm going to wait and let Janet check it out to be sure. She knows a lot more about saddle fit than I do, without a doubt. Sure is a nice saddle, though. I hope it's going to work.
Guess I should have brushed ALL of her before taking a picture, huh? But she is always such an absolute MESS that unless I actually wet her down and start "fresh" so to speak brushing her just isn't all that effective. And even then, the "clean" only lasts until I let go of her -- after which she races out to the nearest mud or dirt pile and slathers it all over herself. Sigh. (If I ever buy another horse I'll definately add questions about their personal hygiene to the list!)

Well, Mark just headed back to work again this evening. As he said in an e-mail earlier this evening, "455 offshore hitches done, 36 to go." Wow. Hard to believe he even knows how many times he's done this over the years. But 36 doesn't sound like all THAT many more, does it?
This is the third year in a row, though, that he will be gone for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Each time he's changed rigs these last few years he's ended up on the opposite work schedule and the result has been that he has had to work EVERY holiday season. This is getting very very old.
