The party is coming up . . .

Shirley is working her butt off getting ready for Dale's birthday party!  Wow, talk about a JOB!  There are about 60 people who have responded that they WILL be there - and more she hasn't heard from who may well show up as well.  I'll tell you what - the fact that she's having that gathering in their new EMPTY house was a fine idea.  No WAY all those people would fit comfortably in a house with actual furniture in there!  Last night they got something like 10 big tables and 50 or 60 chairs from their church.  (And they're really nice, I might add -- most of the tables are big round ones.  I love those things!)

Anyway, Wendy and I will be picking up the table clothes for those tables today -- while Shirley picks up the giant birthday cake and all KINDS of other things.  I'll definitely be taking some pictures tonight and tomorrow over there!

Yesterday while we were there, Shirley's nephew Ken (Wendy's cousin) came by and helped unload all those tables and chairs.

That was the first time I had met him and I'll tell you what.  He is a HOOT.  Nice nice guy.  He's a fireman, though, who has to be on call on Saturday so he won't be able to make it to the party. (His wife will be there though - looking forward to meeting her.)

While he was there he was telling us about an incident a while back where a woman had stopped to get gas on her way to work and was talking on the phone at the same time and ended up dumping gas on her left arm.  Well instead of going inside and trying to wash it off she just jumped back in her car and headed out.  But once she got out on the road, the silly woman LIT A CIGARETTE!  Of course, the clothing on that left arm went up in flames!  And she kept driving with her arm hanging out the window trying to blow out the flames!  A police car passed and saw it and u-turned and went after her.  He stopped her and threw his jacket around her arm and put it out.  She was pretty badly burned.  And then he actually wrote her a ticket!  Can you believe!

Illegal possession of a fire arm.

Believe me, he had us ALL believing every word until we asked what on earth that ticket was for!   He should consider Comedy Central as a sideline.

Oh- Wendy and I went over to visit Cass before we got to Shirley and Dale's place.  She's doing really well, thank goodness.  And of course Teddy and Blue were there checking out the company.  They are both SO cute.  (And Teddy's eyes are a hoot, aren't they?)

Well, Wendy and I are heading out now.  If we make it back before midnight I MAY keep you posted later today.

Or not.

By the time we got home last night I was exhausted.  So it may well not happen until tomorrow.  We'll see.
