Status of our dogs

Well, first of all, the dogs seem to FINALLY be getting used to the horses.  Rocky was particularly pissy with them, constantly barking and jumping at the fence.  But this picture was taken last week -- he's calming down, at least as long as he's the ONLY dog out there.  If he and Joey are both out, they seem to encourage each other to harass the horses.  (As for Duke, he's always willing to come up to the fence when he sees the dogs --  whether they're barking or not!  He seems fascinated with them.)

Rocky generally just seems much cheerier than he's been most of the time in the past.  (And he doesn't mind being photographed either!)

Joey, on the other hand, does NOT care to be photographed particularly.

When I talk to him he WILL look at me, but when he sees the camera he's less than excited.

(He's still cute, though, huh?)
But once the flash goes off a time or two he is REALLY ready to climb UNDER his blanket.

But Rocky is NEVER unhappy, no matter how many flashes go off, as long as I keep talking to him and telling him what a good, good boy he is.  (And he IS, too!)

Now if it looks like he's going to jump up and I tell him to  "stay" he does get a bit concerned and a little less cheery.  (But he does listen.)

As for Boo?  He's still his same old self.  A sweet, sweet boy who's generally VERY "active."  But once he's ready to go to bed . . . he goes to bed.

Boo is a beautiful boy - but he's not nearly as photogenic as the other two.

Oh well.  Neither am I.  What the heck.

We don't mind, do we Boo?

UPDATE:  I WISH I had had my camera in hand when I turned Joey out a few minutes ago!  He has been ignoring the horses for the last couple weeks so I THOUGHT that problem was over.  It might have been if Duke weren't such a playful boy.  As I mentioned earlier, he generally wanders over to the dog yard fence whenever there's a dog out there just to say "hello."  But when he did that a minute ago with Joey out there, Joey apparently thought Duke was coming after him or something because when Duke stuck his nose up to the fence Joey started barking and jumping at the fence again!  I was about to go out and bring him in when I saw Duke jump to one side as if he were frightened.  But nooooo . . . he was just playing!  He jumped back the other way and raced down the fence with Joey racing right alongside him.  When he got past the end of the dog yard and realized Joey couldn't keep running with him, he turned and ran BACK the other way!  They raced all the way back to the other end, then Duke turned and ran back AGAIN!  After three trips back and forth, he finally stopped and stood looking at Joey for a few minutes.  When Joey wouldn't shut up, Duke just wandered back out to the pasture and Joey turned and came inside. Duke probably thinks he's not much fun and Joey probably thinks he ran Duke off.  Sigh.  But Joey sure got plenty of exercise out there that time.  Guess that's a good thing,  Well, the good part is that he is able to race up and down again these days.  That's so good.

And Duke is such a special guy.  He has SO much personality.  But I've never seen even Duke "play" with a dog like that before.

And by the way -- Joey was just as fast as Duke!  It might be interesting to see who could run faster out in an open field one day . . . IF I could ever trust Joey enough to let him do that.  But that probably won't ever happen.  Still . . . gotta wonder.  Or maybe Duke was just pacing himself to run alongside Joey.  He probably was, come to think of it, since I've seen him moving out even faster than that at times.  (Just ask Lizzie!)  But Joey WAS pretty darned fast!
