One step forward, two steps back . . .

It's been one of those days -- well, two of those days, actually.  First, yesterday -- Mark's chain saw didn't work, so -- no bush/tree removal.   No fence post cut offs.

Then this morning I was out in the dog yard with Joey and Rock when I heard what I thought was an explosion.  I thought it must have come from one of the chemical plants that line the opposite side of the Mississippi River from us.  But I turned on the radio, and there was nothing about it on there, so I just continued to get ready for work until Mark stuck his head into my bathroom and told me that the explosion had NOT been across the river, but had actually been in our own kitchen!  What!

Seems our pot rack pulled loose from the wall (despite six heavy duty bolts) and the shelves of bowls and things and a row of hanging pots had all crashed onto the floor (and some bounced off the island).

Note that that super-heavy steel pot with the orange ceramic coating has a huge "V" broken out of it, but the fragile plaster Buddha head that was sitting on the very top shelf didn't get so much as a single chip.  Interesting.

By the way, that computer was NOT sitting on the pot rack.  It's been sitting by the back door for some months now waiting for me to take it over to the computer guys to get the hard drive replaced IF we find someone who needs a computer but can't afford to buy one.  (We're thinking maybe we could show his Aunt Connie how to use it to keep in contact with us all online when we go up to visit with her in June.)

Oh -- and then, when I finally got in the truck and headed off to bring Joey to therapy and me to work, I noticed that the clock said 9:25!    Good grief!  I knew I was going to be late, but not THAT late!  But when I got to work and looked at the clock on my desk it read . . . 8:55??  What the heck ? . . .

Then it dawned on me . . . my truck's clock is supposed to automatically compensate for Daylight Savings Time.  Apparently it thought yesterday was the start of it - not last month.   So at least I wasn't all that late for work today after all.  Every little bit helps.  Now I just have to figure out how to reset a clock that's supposed to set itself automatically (or get used to editing the time until the end of Daylight Savings Time next fall).  Nah . . . if nothing else, I'll get the Honda people to reset it when they install the updated GPS disk we're getting before the Michigan trip.

But now, just to keep things interesting, we got a tornado warning  this afternoon -- valid until 6 PM.  Oh, well -- the horses are all tucked into their stalls today anyway since we knew there was going to be a major thunderstorm.  So I'm going to try and leave a little early this afternoon to go pick up Joey and get home before the worst of it so I hope it won't be that big a deal.  And tomorrow it's supposed to go back to being clear and gorgeous again for another week, so we'll start over again then and see what we can accomplish.   One step forward once again  . . .
