Joey, Joey, Joey . . .

Okay, my day once more revolves around repairing Joey's messes.  Earlier this week on our way home from physical therapy, Joey peed on the floor of my truck.  Now the entire truck has vinyl mats for the floor instead of carpet -- EXCEPT for a 1-foor wide strip that runs under the back seats when they are in the down position.  But of course when Joey rides back there, I fold the seats up.  So where did he choose to relieve himself? . . . why on that small strip of carpet OF COURSE!  It's my own fault though.  When I used to park in front of the vet school to pick him up he would RACE over to the grass on our way out and go to the bathroom before we got into the truck.  But lately I have been dropping him off and picking him from the back of the school since the door to physical therapy is right next to that parking lot.  Unfortunately, there is no grass back there -- only concrete.  And he won't go on the concrete so we have just been racing home where he goes in the grass as soon as he gets out of the truck before we even go in the house.  But THAT day the traffic was bad and we sat at a couple of lights for a good while.  I should have known better.  When I got back in the truck that evening to go feed the horses it was immediately obvious that there was a problem!  I've since dumped various things on there that are supposed to eliminate pet odors.  But rather than eliminate them, now it smells like urine AND cleaner in there -- a bad BAD thing, particularly when you get in the truck after it has been sitting in 100 degree heat for a while!  Yuk!

And then this morning . . . well, let me explain that I mix canned dog food in with their dry kibble.  So after I went to the grocery yesterday to pick up dog food I unloaded the bags of dry food, but not the case of canned food.  Didn't think that would be a problem.  But we hadn't gotten further than the first traffic light this morning on our way to therapy when I heard him chewing like mad on "something."  Couldn't imagine what it could be since there was nothing back there that he could chew on "I thought."  Ha!  Pulled over to the side of the road and looked back there to find that he had unwrapped the case of canned dog food and had actually perforated one of the cans.  His teeth are sharp like little shark teeth, but that really amazed me.  Will we have anything left intact by the time he grows out of this phase!!!

So anyway, I will be taking off early this afternoon to get over to Benny's Car Wash before they close so they can get the urine and dog food cleaned out of that little carpet strip for me.  And from now on I will make it a point to walk him around to the grass area BEFORE putting him into the truck when I pick him up.  (He's getting me trained -- slowly but surely.)
