Joey is so funny. He loves to curl up under the covers. If there's no one in the bed that he can curl up next to, then he roots around until a pillow falls over on him so he will be covered up with SOMETHING.
Rocky also sleeps on the bed when Mark is offshore, but fortunately he doesn't feel compelled to be on top of me or under the covers!
Once Joey gets up in the morning he immediately goes outside, of course. But instead of racing straight out into the yard like everyone else, he always stops and watches the cats on the other end of the porch for a while first.
He's SO much better with them now than he was to begin with. At first he would stand there all stiff and bark and growl and the hair on his neck would stand up. Now he just runs over to their door and sits there and watches them as if they were a movie! Maybe it helps that there is a little kitten in one of the cages there at LSU where he goes every other day. That little guy may be getting him used to the idea of having a cat around all the time.
Today at therapy they started him working out on the ramps and stairs and things outside. He's still doing the water treadmill and having the ultrasound treatments, but they've added those agility-type exercises. So now we're supposed to start going to the levee to work with him going up and down those steps in between therapy visits. I stopped there today after I picked him up, but when I got out of the truck the heat was just stifling - there are no big shade trees around there -
and when I opened the back door to get Joey out of the truck, he was sound asleep! The levee is only a block from the vet school so he couldn't have been in the truck for more than a couple minutes. Poor little guy must have been completely exhausted. So I just closed the door again and drove on home. Maybe tomorrow . . .
