Well, the good news is that the old "pond" is now just a landscape feature -- a dip in the property where water can accumulate temporarily after a hard rain.
The bad news is that just as he was getting close to finishing up the pond reconfiguration, it started to storm. See the black cloud in the picture below? We got about an inch and a half of rain in about half an hour. So the dozer is just parked out there now until tomorrow when he will (hopefully) finish up by cutting a swale across the rest of the property to direct water to that depression and on out to the canal.
That stump is going to have to be removed with a different piece of equipment - he's planning to bring that over tomorrow. That was a huge, 3-foot or more diameter tree we lost in that last hurricane and even with that bulldozer, it was impossible to pull it up.
I know the window screen makes this picture a little obscure, but you can almost see a little better what the land is like from that upstairs window. In the other pictures it looks almost flat, but it's really not, actually. It's just a lot more gradual slope but there's still quite a large area to collect water.
Tomorrow he's also going to run a swale down the opposite side of the property to direct water from the neighboring properties down the side of our land and out to the drainage ditch in front instead of allowing it to run across our land, which should make it a lot easier to get the rain that actually falls on our land to drain.
Here's Joey keeping an eye on things:
And here's Mark doing the same - obviously VERY happy to be watching someone ELSE do some work around here for a change:
