Mark finally got home around 1 PM yesterday (no sleep - had to pull over and nap for an hour or two). That was just in time for him to dig out a couple of giant dog crates I promised to loan to someone dealing with feral cats for a local rescue group who was coming by to pick them up at 1:30.
All of our dogs are now of an age where they no longer need a crate, and their stiff old bones do far better in those big plastic dog beds we use than they do stuffed into a crate - even a big 42" one.
We first came across those plastic beds at a gun show, of all places, probably 10 years or more ago (that's another story - I was applying for a concealed carry permit and needed another gun ... never mind. Maybe we'll go into all that later.) ANYWAY . . . they were selling these beds at the booth where they had supplies for hunting dogs and they were only about $15 apiece back then. So we bought a bunch of them, and they're still in perfect shape after all this time. You can buy covers and pillows for them, but why? I go to garage sales and buy cheap comforters to stick in there. That way I'm not pissed when someone chews holes in theirs and it's very very easy to pull them out and throw them all in the washer every week or so.
They're called "Perla" beds. They're made in Italy, but they're sold by lots of places including Amazon and J-B Pet Wholesalers here in the U.S.
Apparently I should have thrown THAT into the washing machine, as well, before snapping this pic. It's pretty grubby, isn't it? (Obviously Joyce can't keep EVERYTHING tidy for me.)
