Enough already !! This is NOT Ohio!

The bayou is frozen over completely this morning.  All the water lines at the barn are frozen - despite the fact that they were all left running almost wide open all night.  The water in our horses' buckets inside the barn was even frozen this morning.  When I got over there at 7 this morning, Al had brought out hot water from the house and tried to thaw out the valves on the automatic waterers without success.  Finally he gave all the other horses water in buckets, too.

First it rained for a solid month (the most rain we've had in a month since they started keeping records back in the early 1800's -- something like 26 inches, I think).  Now it's been over a week of freezing temperatures - unheard of down here.   Enough!!  I want our regular Louisiana weather back!

But at least I have a nice warm, CLEAN house where I can curl up in front of the fireplace and enjoy a book -- surrounded by ALL the dogs and cats.  Not such a bad life after all.  But I think when we bring the horses home I'm going to ask Mark to make some sort of provision for warming up the barn at least a little -- enough to keep the water unfrozen anyway!  I'd enjoy that book a lot more if I knew the horses were comfy.
