Yet another Monday -- time to go back to work. But at least this week it's only for three days. Two and a half, actually since we generally get off at noon the last day before Christmas. Lovely!
You know, I thought I would feel better about working once I hit 65, knowing that I could now quit anytime I like. But as it turns out, that's not exactly true. Mark and I did some calculations and decided that the best thing to do would be for me to go ahead and begin drawing social security next year BUT continue to work and apply that entire social security payment to the mortgage until Mark reaches full retirement age. That way, by the time we retire we can have the house completely paid off, or at least very close to paid off. But since Mark is four years younger than I am, that means his full retirement age isn't 65 but 66 . . . . which means MY retirement age will now be 70! Aarrgghh! Not that I mind working. I actually like my job a lot. But I do wish I could work maybe 3 or 4 days a week instead of EVERY week day so I'd have more time to spend doing things like riding -- while I still can!
On the other hand, Dad has said over and over lately that he really wishes he had NOT retired when he did, that he had continued to work. So maybe this IS a good thing. But good or bad -- it's the way it is.
