Jackie's foster dad, Samuel, gave me a call just before I expected them to arrive on Saturday to let me know he wouldn't be coming up because he had the flu. He had e-mailed me, but my back had gone out and my laptop is out of order at the moment so I hadn't been checking my e-mail because I couldn't comfortably walk up the stairs! So it all worked out well. If they HAD come up on Saturday, I wouldn't have been able to control them myself since I couldn't even stand up straight! I've been taking double amounts of inflammation reduction meds since Friday night and today I am beginning to feel a BIT better (although I'm still going to give my spinal specialist doctor a call tomorrow!).
Anyway -- Samuel and I talked for a little while and I asked if they had made a decision yet as to whether we could adopt those two Cano Corsos. He said he and the rescue founder had talked a lot about it and they had decided to leave them with me for a week so I could make a final decision. Ha! I haven't even met them yet, but I can't imagine that I wouldn't want to adopt them! They are both so gorgeous and such big calm dogs. I LOVE that!
Anyway, since they do plan to leave them here when they bring them up, and since they were going to wait until next weekend, I said it would probably be best to wait a few days longer since Mark gets home that following Wednesday. That way once we have them here, they will never be alone for the first couple weeks. That does seem best - at least for Jackie. Jackie and Bettie are already pals so I won't have to get them introduced. Samuel says Bettie is extremely submissive to ANY other dogs so she will no doubt not have a problem. But he says Jackie gets a little nervous around strangers - dogs or people. So it will be best to keep him separated from the others until we can take them over to that Runnels Preschool to get them together initially. So it'll be best to do it all once Mark is home. (And once my back is completely back to normal!)
Oh - got a call from Wendy. She's doing well for a number of reasons - except the temperature up there was 0 degrees and it was snowing 6" at that time! I really want to go see her new place, but NOT in the winter. I'm just no longer used to Ohio winters AT ALL! Of course, the weather down here is a bit odd lately too, for that matter. It goes up to the 50's to the high 60's during the days, but at night it's gone down into the low 30's this week and Monday and Tuesday night it's supposed to be at least in the low 20's if not the mid-teens! Brrrr! I'm going to put blankets on both Duke and Arthur - that's just TOO darned cold for them. And at the moment it's raining here AGAIN! Both Arthur and Duke immediately raced back up to Duke's stall. (They don't like walking across that mud, but they DO like not being rained on.)
We really really want to level out those paddocks and get them all covered with sand so they won't end up with mud all the way up to their knees anymore. But it needs to get dry first, and it KEEPS raining. This is getting very VERY annoying. But, I guess it's not like complaining will do a darned thing about it, so I guess I'll go back downstairs and hang out with the dogs. (Joey really wants me to do that!)
