It was a very productive morning, actually. Jerry's friend came over at 9 to mow the lawn and dog yard, and while he was at it he also mowed Lizzie paddock. Great!
And Jerry came by as well to weed-eat all over the place, and while HE was at it, he cleared out all those super-tall weeds growing outside Lizzie's stall. They were so tall they were making it hard to open and close her gate!
Then -- since both of them were here -- I went over to Home Depot to pick up those gigantic solid-core 4 X 8 doors we ordered that had come in last week. Mark is going to use those to make 2 more Dutch stall doors. I hadn't picked them up earlier because there was no way I could possibly have gotten them off the truck myself! So today when I got them home the two of them unloaded them off the truck and stood them up in the garage for me. And believe me, that was NOT easy.
It was pretty funny when I went to pick them up, actually. One young guy was getting ready to take them out to the truck for me and I said to him that he really needed to get a second person to help him get them loaded. He laughed and said it wasn't going to be a problem. Ha! When we got out there it took him about 5 seconds of trying to lift just one of them to decide that hey -- he absolutely DID need a second person. And it was all they could do together to get them up onto the truck! It's more or less like lifting 3 or 4 sheets of plywood all together, because those doors are solid wood and a full 1 and 3/4" thick. SUPER heavy.
But they're here now. And the first thing we'll do is to cut them in half to make those Dutch doors and that way they'll only weigh half as much at least. That should help a little anyway. And then before they do another single thing I want to paint all of them first with a base coat and then paint them with teal paint that matches the house shutters. And after they've been painted, THEN they can put on the trim boards (which will have already been painted as well), and THEN they can get on with the hinges and door handles. That way, even if water gets behind any of those things, the door won't rot. Not to mention the fact that it won't be necessary to paint AROUND all those metal objects either.
But I regress -- what I was about to say, was that the moment they finished the main portions of their mowing and weed eating a super heavy rain storm suddenly came down in torrents! Talk about perfect timing! So I ended up getting a shower at noon today since I had ended up soaking wet anyway! So at this point, the horses and dogs have all been fed, the doors are home, the grass is mowed, the weeds are down and I am clean and tidy. Time to kick back and enjoy a nice, restful weekend!
