Yes -- and no . . .

Yes, the new countertops were installed today and they look GREAT.  But no, the kitchen is NOT up to snuff just yet.  Still a lot to do.  It was necessary to remove the trim around both the large windows in order for them to install granite window sills because, unlike the wood sills, the granite looked really strange if it was not absolutely level (which the old wooden ones definitely were NOT).  So - Mark went to work pulling all that trim wood off the sides so they could put in the sills with shims where necessary to make them level.  Now he (or someone else if we can find someone) will have to put back those trim pieces.
I'm going to have to paint up along the top edge of the cabinets.  They cut off the edge of the old countertop and it left quite a bit of unpainted wood visible along the top.  And the boards around those new drawers there on the left where the old ovens used to be never got painted when David built those, either.

I'm also going to repaint the baseboards below the cabinets in a medium beige color similar to the floor.  Having those painted white makes them waaay too noticeable.  Okay - time to paint!

You can really see the space that needs painted just below the countertop in this picture.  We'd like a plumber to change out those faucet handles, too.  I'd rather have those kind they call "wrist blade handles" -- the ones that are nice and wide so that you can just hit them with the back of your hand when your hands are yukky and not glop up the handles.
I was going to get a new faucet, but you'd be surprised how difficult it is to find a faucet that stretches more than a foot -- and it has to with those side sinks that far from the faucet.  Sigh.
With those wall ovens gone and the countertop extended, we have definitely got a HUGE kitchen counter now.  With that counter, and the giant island, we'll have enough space for half a dozen people to cook in there all at once!

It also turned out that although they removed the sinks, the countertop installers do NOT re-install them.  So we will be calling around tomorrow to find someone to come hook that big kitchen sink back in, and to hook up the vessel sink over near the dining room.
And because I wanted that vessel sink to be clearly visible, I didn't want any kind of backsplash on that dining room wall, so Mark took off the marble backsplash that WAS there -- but now we need someone to repair the sheetrock and paint that back wall.
Here's where the vessel sink will go - and where the wall needs repaired.
Here's the sink.
I bought it years and years ago so I'm really happy that it's going to finally be put in place!

And here are some close-ups of that sink.   Hey! . . .  I LOVE that thing.  Might as well show it off, huh?
Here's the view from above.

And close-ups various portions

Okay.  Time for bed.  I'm planning to go in to work early tomorrow so I can take off early and get some more of those things done around here.  Nite!
