Storm prep

Well, they're shutting down Mark's rig today so he won't have to go back to work tonight.  He'll be able to stay here at home until after the storm.  I was really really glad to hear that!  First, I don't like wondering how they're doing when he's out there in the Gulf.  And second, I'm really grateful that he will be here with US during the storm!

As things stand now, though, the problem here at our place is more likely to be flooding than wind damage, although there will be wind  -- probably about 50 miles an hour or so.  Still, that's way better than 70 or 80 mph.  But they're saying that we will be getting at least 8 1/2 inches of rain in less than a day . . . and possibly more than 20" because the storm is moving so slowly and is SO enormous!  It's 240 miles across, so it's going to take it a WHILE for it to get past us.  No doubt our garage (which is at ground level) will flood. So today Mark will be moving everything that's on the floor in the garage out to the barn.  Then he'll be able to put the Mercedes (which is not insured at the moment) inside the garage.  The water shouldn't (fingers crossed) get deep enough to hurt the car and truck.  And the freezer and generator and air conditioners are all raised off the ground enough, as well -- we hope.

I forgot to get more wood shavings for the stalls over the weekend so I guess I'll be leaving early today to go pick some up.  Since the horses will be kept inside their stalls through the storm they're going to need a thick layer of shavings so they can lay down and rest comfortably in there.
