It is COLD out there!  It's supposed to go down to 26 degrees tonight.  Hey - this is the SOUTH!  We're not supposed to have to deal with that kind of thing!

I put the horses' blankets on them a little while ago.  Duke seemed pleased.  Lizzie was pissed.  Life goes on.

As for me, I'm still going to sleep out on the sleeping porch.  I absolutely love sleeping outside in the freezing cold with that heated mattress pad turned all the way up!   (I know, I know . . . Mark doesn't understand it either.)

I just read something about Monday being Martin Luther King day.  I THINK that means we'll be off on Monday. Great!  Looking forward to a long peaceful weekend.  One of my bosses has started taking off EVERY Friday and EVERY Monday this year.  (She's "gradually" retiring.)  Wish I could afford to do that.   I don't really want to stop working, but it sure would be good to work less.  I talked to one of my  bosses about it a while back and he essentially said he doesn't care WHEN I work - just "get it done."  So although I haven't started working a short week (can't afford that), I HAVE been working some rather unstandard hours.  I go in early, take a short lunch, then leave at 3:30 or 4 - instead of 5 like everyone else.  Seems to work for all of us.  I get to come home before it gets dark and deal with the horses.  But I come in early, check my e-mail (and jobs that have been left on my chair!) and get whatever they need done that day done by the time they get in, usually.  And everyone is happy.

And actually, our whole department (well - not really a "department" -- just three attorneys, a secretary and me) works a less-than-standard arrangement.  One boss takes his dog to all sorts of dog competitions (agility trials, obedience trials, lure coursing, tracking . . . you name it and his dog is no doubt great at it!) and so he often takes off for long weekends to take his Golden to competitions in various nearby states.  Another of the attorneys commutes from New Orleans and is VERY pregnant so she comes in at various times.  And the other boss has a husband who lectures all over the world and she takes off to travel with him.  Actually, that's the one who's now going to have permanent long weekends.  That's probably why.  Anyway, I'm glad my last job turned out to be this one.  It works perfectly for me.

And speaking of jobs, Wendy has been offered a new job in the town where she lives.  If she takes it, she will no longer have to commute to a town an hour away.  AND she probably wouldn't have to work the ridiculous hours she's had to work for the last 5 years or so at her present job.  I think she's worked a good 50 or 60 hours a week routinely.  BAD job.  I haven't heard what she's decided to do, but I really REALLY hope she decides to take the new job.  She's obviously a whole lot younger than I am so it wouldn't have to be a "last" job, but it would still be good to have a job that makes you happy.

Well now that I'm done spouting about everyone else, it's time to go to bed.  I turned on that bed a good hour ago so I'm looking forward to freezing to death between the back door and the bed, then climbing under the covers and curling up in that nice REALLY WARM bed.  Ummmm.  Good night!
