It's been an absolutely lovely weekend.
For starters, Mark put together all those shelving units we bought a while back for the barn, so I got to organize all the stuff I need on a regular basis - feed, alfalfa, feed supplements, brushes, hoof picks, and other grooming equipment, medicines, fly spray, fly masks, halters, lead ropes, wash cloths, paper towels, etc. -- on the shelves. So everything is all nice and handy out there now. Of course, I'm not going to clear all that stuff out the living room until the walls and ceilings and all in the barn are done, but at least the things we need to take care of the horses on a daily basis are out there nice and convenient now. And tidy! (More than I can say for the house, but hey . . . I LOVE a tidy barn!)
Then this evening, we had our yearly anniversary dinner. We went over to Texas de Brazil instead of down to Mortens where we've gone every single year since the beginning. In fact, that was where we went on our first date! Hmm. Maybe we should go down there too as soon as we get a chance.
This year WAS really different. It was not only a different restaurant, but only Mike went along this year. Janet's mom was in the hospital and just had a pacemaker put in so Janet is up in Mississippi with her mom and dad until she's sure her mom is going to be okay. I really enjoyed dinner - and Janet probably isn't too sorry to have missed it since she's not a meat eater and TdB is a SERIOUSLY meat-oriented restaurant. But this is the first time in the 14 years we've been married that the four of us haven't all gone out to celebrate together. After all, Janet and Mike were responsible for Mark and me getting together in the first place. Janet and I have been pals for probably 25 years, and Mike and Mark have been best buds since college. So when the two of them got married it was probably inevitable that Mark and I would get together too! (We met at their wedding!) And I am incredibly grateful. Mark is a really special guy and I adore him. And we have such a wonderful life together.
Now . . . time to go collapse and try and digest ALL that food! I ate so much over there that I feel like I'll never eat again! (Kind of like Thanksgiving in September! Whew!)
