If not horses, then dogs maybe

Hey, even if the horses insist on staying grubby, maybe I can keep the dogs clean anyway.  Or maybe I can't - but someone else can anyway.

Boo, our latest adoption, was an outside dog in his previous life.  Once he came to live inside with us, he started blowing his coat even though it's the middle of the winter.  I've been brushing and brushing and brushing for weeks -- and the house still looked like it was full of tumbleweeds!  It is unbelievable how much hair that boy has!  He went in to LSU the week before last to donate blood and the spot on his neck that they shaved for that is at least 2 or 3 inches below the surface of the rest of him -- that's how thick his coat is.

Ever since we got him, we've said how much his coat reminds us of a wolf -- a deep silvery color.  Here he is with Torri when she brought him to the barn to meet me.
Over time, he got even more silvery -- and the undercoat began coming out in huge TUFTS (see the hair on his side below).
I finally decided that my arthritic hands were not going to hold up long enough to brush out all that undercoat, so I took him over to the groomer who used to shave Ben and asked her if she could just brush him out.  Well, it was almost five hours before she called to say he was ready, but when I went back to get him his back was solid black and he looked 10 pounds thinner!  She said she's never done a dog with an undercoat like his but I'll tell you what, she did an amazing job!  Just look at him now!

Is he gorgeous, or what?!  (And getting a lot more patient about being photographed, too!)
I love that boy.  He is SUCH a sweetheart.
