Creeping up on Christmas

Actually, Mark and I don't really "do" Christmas.  But with Vickie, John and Elizabeth here, I guess there will be a Christmas of some sort at our place this year.

But Mark is not only at work out on the rig at the moment, they are in the process of moving the rig a couple hundred miles out into the Gulf to somewhere so far south of Cameron that they will have to take a helicopter to work instead of just a crew boat.  And while they're in the process of moving the thing, he's not even able to keep in touch!  Boo!  He always e-mails me regularly and calls me every night, so it's going to seem very strange not to even be able to talk with him this week.  They're saying the move will take at least until Saturday, but if they run into a storm (apparently a possibility) they'll have to just chug around in the Gulf until it blows past before they can get on with jacking the legs on the rig down and getting the satellite communications re-established.  I have to say, I sure wish Mark would check around for some sort of job here in town.  Every time he gets ready to head back to work these days he gets more and more testy!

As for me, I'd like to retire myself, but unlike Mark's, my job just isn't physically challenging enough to justify doing it.  Not while we still have a mortgage, anyway.

Time to haul out our family motto, I guess:
"We shall muddle through."
