Rig explosion

Update:  Seems the industry scoop is that the explosion may have been the result of a pipeline rupture.  Here's the RigZone news article.  They're the industry news source.

Talked to Mark and he tells me the exploded rig must be a production rig since his company actually drilled that well initially years back.  His best guess as to the explosion?  Well, he tells me that normally they keep a natural gas well open to operate the rig and that it's possible that someone welding or doing something else on that rig may have screwed up and caused a natural gas explosion.  If so, the well would be aflame, but there would NOT be any danger of contamination.  That's just his guess, but he said the fact that there were only 13 men on the rig indicates no active drilling was going on.

No, that rig was NOT a Hercules rig.  Mark is fine.  In fact, I think Fox News is back out there for yet another interview this morning.   Yep - here's the news article and the video filmed on his rig this morning.

The exploded rig belongs to Mariner Energy.  Not familiar with them.
