We've been giving a lot of thought to what Mr Chaisson said we need to do under the house and it looks to me like we are going to have to forego renovations in Mark's bathroom until fall when the weather dries up enough that those joists and the underside of the plywood dry out, then have someone come in and spray foam insulation under there (we can't do that now while it's wet and seal in the moisture!). I guess we should go ahead and put the visqueen on the ground and install the dehumidifier now to cut down on the amount of moisture coming in under there, so I guess my next project will be finding a couple guys young and spry and small enough to do that job! Although the house is about 2 feet off the ground, there's only about 18 inches of clearance under there when they crawl across those long strips of concrete that the piers sit on. They're going to have to close in the front side before installing the plastic so we'll need to get a bunch of concrete board for that (not edible by termites), find a bunch of that super-thick visqueen, buy a LOT of tape to tape the plastic around every pier and along all the sides, and go buy or rent a bunch of bright lights so they can see what they're doing. That should keep me off the streets for a week or two.
In the meantime, Mark and Jerry and Joe, the guy who set the horse fence posts a couple weeks ago, will be working on rearranging the dog yard fencing and getting the three paddocks set up. I keep hoping the weather will begin to cool off, but actually, these projects are going to take long enough that we definitely need to get on with them NOW or it will get too cold and wet to do them before they can finish.
I was tempted to ask Mr. Chaisson to come back and do a complete inspection and tell us what else needs fixed around here (he pointed out that the venting on the water heater is wrong, that there's no drip ring on the electric line where it comes into the house, and that the boards on the edge of the porch that we put in to keep the dogs from getting under the house HAVE to be removed to prevent termites, just in passing by them to check out the water problems!), but I gave it a second thought and decided that Mark might be rendered completely catatonic if his "to do" list gets any longer than it is right now, so I let THAT one go!
